Is your organization ready for an upsurge in activism? After the 2016 election, Americans swarmed to nonprofit organizations engaged in advocacy. List counts rose dramatically. Action rates exploded. These new volunteers were highly passionate but also quick to leave an organization that wasn't prepared to match their enthusiasm.
Here are THREE THINGS you should be doing right now to prepare for this next growth opportunity.
✅ UPDATE YOUR WELCOME SERIES
Be sure it’s relevant to today’s environment. If you don’t have a welcome series of at least three emails and/or text messages, then you’re behind. Get it done this month.
✅ REVIEW YOUR OFFLINE VOLUNTEER ROLES
Do you have a role for volunteers who want to do more than just sign a petition or make a phone call? Identify opportunities for volunteers who want to give you more of their time, like meeting with lawmakers, attending town hall meetings or speaking at local events on behalf of your issues.
✅ CONFIRM THAT YOUR MESSAGING IS STRONG
Have you been constantly reviewing and auditing the performance of your legislative campaign emails? It’s important to know which issues and messaging have resonated most strongly with your volunteers. If you don’t, complete a digital audit so your 2025 messages are optimized.
If any of these essential actions feel overwhelming or you just don’t have the capacity on staff to complete them, we’re here to help. Many organizations were caught unprepared last time. Let’s be sure that doesn’t happen again.
