Working on your organization's 2024 advocacy budget? start with these two questions.

Working on your organization’s 2024 budget? This is the time to invest in grassroots advocacy! Why now? I have three words for you: 2024 election results.

The uncertainty about which party will control the White House, Congress and many state legislatures after the next election means the 2024 legislative cycle could prove pivotal for organizations wanting to pass meaningful legislation. If the election doesn’t go your way, the following years will instead be spent fighting off harmful bills that threaten to undo all of the impactful work you’ve achieved.

As you craft your 2024 budget request, ask yourself two questions:

  1. Do I want to enhance my digital communication program to drive more actions from my volunteers?

  2. Should I deepen the engagement with my digital volunteers to cultivate them into becoming even more impactful offline volunteers?

If the answer to either question is yes, then now is the time to push for the budget dollars you need to solidify and grow your grassroots power. After all, you don’t want to wait until a crisis to suddenly realize you need a stronger grassroots program.

And if the election results do go your way, your organization will be well-positioned to launch immediate and aggressive advocacy campaigns that propel your issues to the top of the congressional and state legislative agenda. Either way, you win.

How much should you budget? Where should you prioritize? Send me an email – brian@rubensteinimpact.com - and let’s find some time to talk about it. If your needs aren’t in my areas of expertise, I can suggest people best able to help you plan for the coming year.
